Summary of Position

Under the general direction of the Production Planning Manager, responsible for the efficient organization and completion of production scheduling. Coordinates work orders with personnel, equipment, and materials to ensure that all customers’ due dates are met. Responsible for learning various duties related to production reports, scheduling, and other manufacturing functions.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, & Authority

This role carries five core accountabilities:

1. Create Daily 24-Hour Frozen Schedule

● Creates and maintains a daily 24-hour frozen production schedule, assigning production orders to the appropriate presses in close coordination with the manufacturing group.

● Maximizes use of presses, secondary equipment, and personnel by scheduling machinery efficiently to meet customer due dates.

● Oversees proper distribution of work orders and label preparation for all current jobs on the manufacturing floor.

2. Update Customer Service on Delayed Orders

● Proactively notifies Customer Service whenever an order is at risk of being delayed, so customer-facing teams can communicate accurately and in a timely manner with customers.

● Works with Customer Service to confirm delivery expectations stay aligned with the production schedule.

3. Monitor Supply Levels & Adjust Schedule

● Monitors raw material and supply levels and adjusts the production schedule as needed to prevent disruptions.

● Verifies that all necessary raw materials and equipment are available in-house to run jobs as scheduled, working with the Buyer, Warehouse Manager, and Customer Service.

● Works with the Maintenance Manager to ensure equipment is available when needed.

4. Collaborate & Communicate Across Departments to Prioritize Schedule

● Collaborates and communicates with all departments to prioritize and align the production schedule.

● Establishes strong working relationships with other departments to maintain effective communication about raw material, equipment, and personnel availability.

● Leads scheduling-related communication at daily meetings, including shift hand-offs and the mid-day PIT meeting.

5. Assist with Backup Production Reporting

● Assists with backup production reporting, ensuring accurate daily production records that summarize production quantities and scrap levels.

● Maintains production standards set by Engineering and works to rectify any discrepancies.

● Follows up on identified inconsistencies with shift managers and production coordinators.

● Compiles and distributes daily and weekly reports, closes out orders for each prior month, and runs the month-end report in a backup duty.

● Learns, practices, and supports 5S to assist the Company in the continuous improvement process.

● Maintains a safe working environment to minimize the possibility of injury. Always acts in a safe manner and ensures that those around him/her do not put themselves or others at risk. Reports any unsafe conditions to the supervisor.

Summary of Position

The Set-Up Technician position is responsible for removing molds from completed jobs and setting up the next scheduled jobs. In addition, the Set-Up Tech adjusts and troubleshoots the operations of semi-automatic and automatic injection molding machines to maintain the flow and quality of products being produced.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, & Authority

  • Sets up molds. Installs knockout pins in the mold (all must be the SAME LENGTH). Mounts, aligns, and connects plastic molding dies on press platens. Must ensure that the machine’s safety features (e.g., drop bar, safety gates) are properly set. All Safety guards must be in place. Connects water and air lines to mold where necessary and adjusts controls to regulate the mold temperature.
  • Sets machine controls to regulate clamping pressure and speeds. Sets control for injection speeds and pressures. Sets all machines’ timers (e.g., curing time, boost time, hold time and open time) to obtain the proper cycles. Changes machine screw when necessary to obtain proper color. Record all troubleshooting adjustments on the Supervisors Checklist.
  • Cleans the entire machine and washes the floor around the machine. All work areas must be kept clean and safe.
  • Cycles-in machine. Examines the sample parts for defects, such as flash, sinks, shorts, splay, cracks and closed holes, proper inserts, and codes, and adjusts machine set up to eliminate defects.
  • Takes first good shots to Cell Lead for approval.
  • Arranges work area and assists in the set-up of auxiliary equipment as required.
  • Instructs operators on operating procedures and safety hazards as they pertain to each job after it is set up.
  • Trouble shoots operating difficulties by referring to the Sussex IM Trouble Shooting Guidelines. Adjust equipment and machine cycles as necessary to correct molding problems such as shorts, flash, etc.
  • Twice during the shift, verifies that we are free of nozzle leaks, Process windows are completed, and parameters are within the stated parameters and Cycle time is matched to the BOM.
  • At completion of run, responsible for removing mold from press. Sprays mold with rust preventative, disconnects water lines and blows water out of mold. No mold can be stored with water in water lines.
  • Responsible for storing mold in designated storage space. Must tag mold with any needed mold repair.
  • Follows Sussex IM’s environmental policies to protect and minimize our impact on the environment.
  • Maintains a safe 5S working environment to minimize the possibility of an injury. Acts in a safe manner always and ensures that those around them do not put themselves or others at risk. Reports any unsafe conditions to a manager.
  • Performs other related duties and assignments as assigned or required.

Required Education, Credentials, & Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ set-up experience in plastic injection molding

Summary of Position

Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, a Maintenance Technician I maintains injection
presses and auxiliary equipment to ensure that they are always in safe and excellent working
order. The Maintenance Technician I follows maintenance schedules for all equipment and
ensures all necessary preventative maintenance is completed on a timely basis.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, & Authority

  • Responsible for ensuring that the daily routine maintenance is performed on all molding equipment.
  • Works independently or with other maintenance technicians to troubleshoot any major
    mechanical or electrical problems.
  • Works with outside contractors for problems that can not be solved internally.
  • Ensures that all safety systems and guarding on all molding machines and auxiliary
    equipment are kept in good working order.
  • Responsible for doing any facility maintenance that is outside the ability of the facilities
    maintenance team.
  • Documents all activity in the MRO module.
  • Makes recommendations and upon approval places orders for the necessary parts to
    improve or repair machinery.
  • Assists in the moving of machinery within the plant as well as hooking-up and leveling
    new machines.
  • Responsible for performing maintenance functions on all auxiliary equipment.
  • Ensures that all work areas are always kept clean and organized.
  • Learns, practices, and supports lean manufacturing tools to assist the Company in the
    continuous improvement process.

    environment.

Summary of Position

The Process Technician is responsible for performing duties to set up and operate varied sizes and types
of molding machines. In addition, is responsible for maintaining the flow and quality of products being
produced and maintaining effective communication with other departments.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, & Authority

  • Samples and debugs new molds. Also, sets and records mold parameters and works closely with
    engineers to resolve any mold issues.
  • Sets up molds. Installs knockout pins in the mold, mounts, aligns and connects plastic molding
    dies on press platens. Ensures that the proper number of clamps are used per mold half and that
    all machine safety features (e.g., drop bar, safety gates) are properly set. Connects water and air
    line to mold and where necessary adjusts controls to regulate the mold temperature. Sets
    machine controls to regulate clamping pressures and speeds. Sets controls for injection speeds
    and pressures. Sets all machine timers (e.g., curing time, boost time, hold time and open time) to
    obtain the proper cycles. Changes machine screw when necessary to obtain proper color.
  • Cycles-in machine. Examines the sample parts for defects, such as flash, sinks, shorts, splay,
    cracks, and closed holes, and adjusts machine set up to eliminate defects. Takes sample parts to
    Quality Assurance for approval.
  • Arranges work area and assists in the setup of auxiliary equipment as required. Cleans the entire
    machine and washes the floor around the machine. All areas must be kept clean and safe.
  • Instructs operators on operating procedures and safety hazards as they pertain to each job after it
    is set up. Maintains a safe working environment to minimize the possibility of an injury.
  • Twice during the shift, verifies that all the molding parameters such as pressures, timers, water
    temperatures and machine heats are properly set. In addition, makes a quality check of the part
    for any defects. Trouble shoots operating difficulties by adjusting equipment and machine cycles
    to correct molding problems such as shorts, flash, etc..
  • At completion of run, removes mold from press. Sprays mold with rust preventative, disconnects
    water lines and blows water out of mold. Stores mold in designated storage space. Tags mold with
    needed mold repair.
  • Attends seminars, trade shows, and/or classes to continually develop skills and remain abreast of
    new developments.
  • Learns and uses a working knowledge of Scientific Molding.
  • Learns and uses medical molding as necessary.
  • Assists set up technicians on problem jobs. Provides technical advice and assistance to Set-Up
    Technicians.
  • Assists with answering bells and setups.
  • Fills out all required paperwork (e.g., setup checklists, start-up checklist, process window, SIM
    book, press logs.)
  • Mentors the set-up technicians.
  • Optimizes current processes and makes continuous improvements with the shop floor processes.
  • Follows Sussex IM’s environmental policies to protect and minimize our impact on the
    environment.
  • Maintains a safe 5S working environment to minimize the possibility of an injury. Always acts in a
    safe manner and ensures that those around them do not put themselves or others at risk. Reports
    any unsafe conditions to a manager.
  • Performs other related duties and assignments as assigned or required.

Required Education, Credentials, & Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Must have completed the Set-Up Technician Apprenticeship Program or have the equivalent work
    experience. Must have successfully completed Paulsen’s Interactive Video Injection Molding
    series.

Job Specification

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in plastic injection molding
  • Must be able to work with multiple departments.
  • Must have an open mind and willingness to learn.

Summary of Position

An Engineering Tech I is responsible for building and verifying the operation of all new and existing secondary equipment.  The Engineering Tech I will assist engineering in designing and troubleshooting of secondary equipment to ensure proper function, safe operation, and desired efficiency.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, & Authority

  • Read and understand electrical schematic drawings to determine how to interface automation components back to main control panel.
  • Install new control panels per engineering prints.
  • Uses multi-meter, hand tools and electrical theory to diagnose and resolve control and instrumentation issues.
  • Install, inspect, repair, and maintain a variety of electrical systems.
  • Use blueprints, work instructions and schematics to perform assembly / build operations of new secondary equipment requiring the use of mills, drill presses, grinders, cutoff saws, etc.
  • Determine the best way to route air and electrical lines to ensure range of motion without wear.
  • Read schematics to install wiring/electrical and pneumatic systems on secondary equipment.
  • Ensure all secondary equipment is guarded and operating to SIM safety standards.
  • Control and maintain component inventory in R&D.
  • Maintain MRO system and document all maintenance related items as equipment is serviced.
  • Maintain contact with vendors for product supply and service of in-house products.
  • Trouble shoot automation as needed to maintain an efficient workflow.
  • Must continually work towards improving the secondary operations to achieve a zero-defect operation. Takes the initiative and works independently.
  • Learns, practices, and supports all Lean Manufacturing tools to assist the company in the continuous improvement process. Lean manufacturing tools include 5S, Total Preventive Maintenance (TPM) and Value Stream Mapping (VSM).
  • Maintains a safe working environment to minimize the possibility of an injury. Reports any unsafe conditions to supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • 2-year degree from technical school or minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience with secondary equipment / automation systems
