Sussex Injection Molding has over 40 years of experience with insert molding. Plastic injection insert molding is the process of placing a piece (made of plastic, metal, or any other material that can withstand the plastic injection molding process) into the injection molding cavity and molding thermoplastic material around that insert. This method of injection molding creates a single, fully integrated assembly that is bonded or encapsulated within the plastic which allows the insert to last the lifetime of the product.
One of Sussex IM’s first customers back in 1977 required molding brass threaded inserts into PVC pump housings which we still do today.
Our in-house team of automation and robotics engineers construct custom, in-house automation systems to automatically place the inserts into the mold. This does not only make the molding process more efficient and repeatable, it also ensures the inserts are placed correctly in the mold so as not to damage the tooling.
