Material Selection

Informed Choices, Reliable Results.

Choosing the right resin can make or break a plastic part. Strength, durability, surface finish, regulatory compliance – all of it starts with material selection. At Sussex IM, this step is built into our design for manufacturing (DFM) process and backed by decades of hands-on experience.

We’ve processed over 100 engineering-grade thermoplastics and understand how each one behaves during molding. That knowledge helps customers avoid costly rework, reduce cycle times, and get better results from day one.

Resins We Specialize In

Some projects call for everyday performance. Others require specialized traits like chemical resistance, flexibility, or impact strength. We’ve worked with both at scale.

Commodity Resins

  • Polypropylene
  • ABS
  • High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS)
  • Polycarbonate
  • SAN
  • Nylon
  • Polyethylene

Specialized Resins

  • PBT
  • Acetal
  • TPE
  • PETG
  • PMMA (Acrylic)

Our facility includes six large silos dedicated to bulk resin storage for high-volume programs, including polypropylene, ABS, and polystyrene.

More Than Material Advice

Material selection for injection molding doesn’t happen in isolation. Our engineers factor in everything: part geometry, tooling requirements, decoration requirements, assembly methods, and final use conditions. The goal is always to find the right fit for performance, manufacturability, and cost.
If resin availability shifts, we help identify substitutes that meet the same technical and visual specs. When quality matters, we test materials under production conditions, not just in theory.

From Resin to Real-World Performance

Sussex IM brings together material knowledge, tooling experience, and automation strategy to support projects across consumer, medical, and industrial markets.

Resin selection also impacts adjacent services. Our team considers how material choice affects insert molding, part decoration, assembly, and even packaging.
