Manufacturing expansion part of a phased approach to add capabilities for the medical market
SUSSEX, Wis. (June 22, 2020) – Sussex IM, a long-standing leader in custom injection molding and advanced automation, today announced the addition of an ISO Class 8 clean room to be completed later this year. The two million dollar investment reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to support the ever-growing medical market complementing its ISO 13485 certification, achieved in 2018.
“This is a critical expansion to our existing capabilities,” said Greg Gierach, business development and sales account manager at Sussex IM. “Our legacy of innovative automated manufacturing and improved facilities, coupled with the realities of Covid-19 impacts to the global market present a unique opportunity. Procurement practices in all segments have quickly adapted and will continue to evolve. We believe this will be amplified in the medical, pharma and hygiene segments. The addition of this clean room capacity will benefit our existing customers and position Sussex IM for growth with new strategic partners.”
As the COVID-19 pandemic has ripped across the country, halting production for a wide range of products, Sussex IM has remained completely operational and set its sights on preparing for life after the pandemic. Trying to predict the future can prove to be nearly impossible, but creating added flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances is more important now than ever. Sussex IM is actively planning to adapt to the likelihood of OEMs quickly increasing reshoring efforts in the coming months.
The plans that Sussex IM has for the clean room are part of a multi-year, phased approach to continue to add flexibility and increase capacity to serve the medical market.
“As ‘re-shore enablers’; variables in transportation costs, lead times, duties and tariffs will be mitigated,” said Gierach. “The phased growth strategy will allow us to tailor equipment and process flow, reacting accordingly to this changing landscape.”
“Our mission is to solve problems to satisfy consumer needs, both current and anticipated,” said CEO Keith Everson. “We see issues in the complicated global supply chain that has created a demand for more medical molding clean room capacity. This is the first step of many we are taking to solve these problems.”
Sussex IM maintains a culture centered on quality, complying with the International Standard of Operations, by holding ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certifications, to go with their most recent ISO 13485 certification.
